Barry Nelson works for FNBO as a Wealth Management Market Leader where he employs an extensive background in financial services to help clients manage high net worth assets in support of future life events. He also assists commercial clients, particularly in the area of exit planning, because he understands how important it is for business owners to see their legacy live on.
Barry started his career in the financial services business in 1991 as a currency trader. He also has experience as a stock/bond/options trader.
A native of north central Minnesota, Barry attended college at University of Wisconsin-Stout. He has been long-time holder of the Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses and holds his Kansas Life/ Variable insurance license. Barry also holds the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA) and Chartered Mutual Fund Consultant (CMFC) designations as well as the Fundamentals of Alternative Investment (FAI) certificate. The FAI certificate is a professional development, core training program designed for professionals wanting to build a functional knowledge of alternative investments.
Barry served as a continuing education instructor, teaching retirement savings courses in the region. He is frequently called upon as a featured speaker for financial education events.
Barry moved from the Twin Cities ten years ago, and with his 3 great kids and one great wife (of 20 years), have made the Kansas City area home. He is an avid sailor and has sailed the hemisphere, including Honduras, Scotland, California, Lake Superior and throughout the Caribbean Sea. On the weekend, you will find him with his family at the marina on Stockton Lake.
Barry is also avid about community service and participates on the Advisory Board of Braden’s Hope, a children’s cancer research charity based in Johnson County. He also supports the Boy Scouts of America and plans to be the Summer Camp Scoutmaster for Boy Scout troop 459’s trip to Bartle Reservation in 2020. Barry is a founding member of the Kansas Sailing Association which specializes in youth sailing.
